Tehran Int'l Book Fair kicks off online

The virtual edition of the 2021 Tehran Int'l Book Fair kicks off.

The 2021 Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) has kicked off the virtual edition during a ceremony held at the Iran Book and Literature House on Tuesday.

Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyyed Abbas Salehi, Iran Book and Literature House director Ayyoub Dehqankar, and Union of Tehran Publishers and Booksellers director Houman Hassanpour attended the ceremony. 

The virtual fair will run through January 25, playing host to a number of 80 foreign publishers.

According to Deputy Culture Minister for Cultural Affairs Mohsen Javadi, who was one of the attendees at the ceremony, “The virtual space has helped the publishing industry. E-book and podcasts have helped promote book reading in this space.”

A total of 110 publishers have registered in the international section of the festival, 80 of which are foreign publishers and 30 are Iranian publishers.

The publishers are from different countries including Spain, Indonesia, Columbia and Senegal, some of which are attending the Tehran Book Fair for the first time.

It is also scheduled to hold 30 different international programs with 180 experts attending the webinars organized on the sidelines of the fair.

The Iranian books will be offered with a 20 percent discount while the foreign books will have a 50 percent discount at the fair.

The books will be also delivered to all the various cities across the country for free and also the virtual fair will be open around the clock.
